He and I first connected in 1992, when his band Blue Dog Pict released an extraordinary disc entitled Anxiety of Influence: A Nodding Into. Like Keram himself, the band – and that album in particular – challenged listeners with a far-reaching, multimedia package of offerings that sought to use our interest in what we called alternative music in those days as a kind of artistic springboard."

https://themoderns.blog/2022/05/09/discussions-keram-malicki-sanchez/
Keramtag:keramsongs.com,2005:Post/64422712020-09-24T16:24:12-07:002020-11-16T05:51:28-08:00Official Music Video for "Artificial Intelligence" Launches September 24th 8pm EST/5pm PST
Two years in the making, I cordially invite you to the live YouTube Premiere of my new official music video for the song "Artificial Intelligence," tonight, September 24th, 2020 at 8pm EST/5pm PST.

This huge journey, which began with a humble IndieGogo crowdfunding campaign, and took us from the warehouse recording session in downtown LA with NASA mic engineer Jason Achilles to the industrial production stages a year later with my colleagues, dancers, the Robot Prayers troupe, led by Audri Phillips (Beastie Boys, Spiderman) and many other extraordinary visual and production artists, costumers, musicians, to its debut as a visual project at SIGGRAPH earlier this year, finally comes to fruition. I have met and had the good fortune to learn from so many fascinating and talented people along the way.

The video is weird and visually unsettling, and it fulfills my wish - to see us from the perspective of the AI trying to piece a notion of consensus reality together. We used volumetric capture, projection mapping, choreography, spherical video capture, LIDAR scanning, and a ton of different visual effects to create this look.

I was hired on to a Lifetime movie about domestic violence. I knew it would be emotionally heavy going in. But the network also wanted to pivot from their traditional piano and tines scores to something more experimental and edgy. We referenced Atticus Ross/Trent Reznor, Gorecki, Arvo Pärt, and deep ambient experimental drones.

The result airs August 1st, 2020 in the US at 8pm on Lifetime Networks.

I hope you dig it.

"I have figured out the theme for my new compilation of songs, I guess what people used to call an album," Keram says. "The theme will revolve around the erosion of the internet age as we move into the experiential and embodied paradigm."

The album will also include the previously released single "(Don't Get Caught) by the Dazzling Charades.
Keramtag:keramsongs.com,2005:Post/51518542018-03-28T03:18:27-07:002021-08-09T02:37:17-07:00Join my community on Patreon for Behind the Scenes, Production notes and more exclusives
https://www.patreon.com/keram

For as little as a dollar a month you can support the development of new tracks and projects. Diamanda Galas said that in the modern world, investors no longer value the time to develop ideas, expecting only the finished product. This is a mistake. The classic artists that we listen to, came up in a world where artist development was essential to their development of mastery and crafting the songs that have informed our generations.

With the massive shift of the record industry, the A&R era is reserved for only the most elite board-room designed projects.

Your support of my work via Patreon is a way to foster new ideas and projects.

Thank you always, for listening, and your support of independent thoughts and creative works.
Keramtag:keramsongs.com,2005:Post/47104402017-05-16T02:51:28-07:002018-05-13T03:24:03-07:00Keram to Record two New Songs - 2017
Almost a year after the successfully crowdfunded, recorded, released and music video'd "(Don't Get Caught) By the Dazzling Charades" I am back with a new music project and it can only happen with YOUR help.

Here's the deal - Ryan Brown, the guy who played the drums on The Big End, We breathe So Brief and Killing Days, Living Nights (on my 2015 album Come to Life) has just returned to Los Angeles after touring with Dweezil Zappa and playing all the incredible Terry Bozzio stuff that grew up in the Frank Zappa days. Ryan has become one of the world's monster drummers.

Well it just so happens that for the first time in months, for the period of just ten days, we are in the same city at the same time. It also happens that Marc Thomas, known for his incredibly beautiful cascading guitar beds and glistening melodies is also in town. And what if I told you there are a couple of other super stars whom I can't announce until I know I can pay them - but they ARE in...we just need to lock down the funding. I mean...like, "whoa" kinda people.

So by this Friday May 19th I need to raise a total of $1k to get into and pay the studio (so we can record to analog tape with all the quality mics and people) we need to pay these musicians their super friendly rates that they are offering me, and then we need to mix, master and release the songs!

Can you pitch in a few dollars so we can make this rare event come together? It is only through your support that we can make it happen.

Click here to check out my IndieGogo Campaign through May 19th.

Thanks for everything you do to empower arts and ideas outside the mainstream to becoming reality.
Keramtag:keramsongs.com,2005:Post/40431252016-02-15T16:17:41-08:002020-04-30T02:57:07-07:00(Don't Get Caught) By The Dazzling Charades - Official Video Launched!
So excited to share with you the new video for the single "(Don't Get Caught) By The Dazzling Charades."

The song was an answer to a 7-Day challenge, but I actually wrote, recorded, mixed and completed the entire thing - every single second, in 7 days, live on Periscope. My old buddy Josh Joudrie helped out with that ;)

And then we took like another month to fine tune it for commercial release :)

Then we successfully funded it on IndieGogo in 18 hours - getting it mastered by Andy Vandette (Sevendust, RUSH, Dream Theater) and making the music video below.

This is not the mere glitch fizz it appears - since the song was recorded while the Paris attacks happened a a 1/4 million refugees were mobilizing towards Europe, (and Donald Trump hosted SNL) - all of that carries into the song.

The video not only calls back the days of my band Blue Dog Pict aesthetically - we actually pulled out the old costumes.

I hope you love the new video. Thank you to everyone who helped to make it possible! Please share!

It happened, and we did. It was all documented on Periscope and that will be available soon in digest form on YouTube due to a successful ensuing IndieGogo crowdfunding campaign.

Last night I received the final masters from M.r Andy VanDette who again, went above and beyond to get it just right. We got Mr. Lifeson's notes and blessing. And I am deep into production on the music video. One of my faves I have ever made for a song I have released.

Here, in the meantime, are the lyrics for the song, which I named

"(Don't Get Caught) By The Dazzling Charades"
(words and music by Keram (ASCAP/SOCAN)
A star will die
And yet I feel I just started
And I must reconcile
The storm in all I wanted

And David Gornall asked me for a positive lyric now
Instead of you
You hapless foul
You energy-drainer
I'll take the hit
In spite of you
I know we'll win
The end is new

I need you to know
That I hold the glow
Of our yearning hearts
Above all the cards

That was the night that Rock n' Roll Hall of Famer Alex Lifeson came up onstage with his legendary "Hentor Sportscaster" guitar - the same one he used to play the solo on "Limelight" and so many other great Rush songs from the 80's and he gave us everything he's got.

The band of course, is no slouch - from rock guitar monsters Pete Devlin and Steve Costello to Zappa Plays Zappa's drummer Ryan Brown, or harmonica guru Marty Stelnick and bass master D'Arcy Maguire - Mr. Lifeson had a great platform to build on. This video shows just how it went down.

Alex aka Big Al aka Lerxst traded off licks with Pete and Steve and Marty in the most natural and generous way. Considering the band had ever rehearsed the song together only one time, it was an incredible give and take.

We were also very blessed to have the set mixed at the space by Josh Miles Joudrie and recorded to 16 track Pro Tools by Admiral Quality (maker of the finest music software products) also shot to video by MuchMusic videographer Hernan Morris - wow. What a team.

Keram and Josh then took the tracks and video back to the same studio in Los Angeles where the record "Come to Life" was mixed and put the pieces together, including extra video footage sent in by members of Keram's street team including Shylah Vollans, Hayley Pickford and Ronda Benjamin.

Oh and let's not forget the terrific photographs taken by Paul Reid and Christian Bobak.

We hope you enjoy this document of the night. It was one of those moments that a young musician dreams about and an older one will carry forward for the rest of her life.

Here is The Devil Knows Me Well:

See Pete and I go way back to when we were just 14 year old kids playing in my parents' basement, with nothing more than fire in our hearts and some powerful musical ideas that we didn't quite yet have the wherewithal to share with the world audience yet at that stage in our lives.

But we worked hard and Pete and I are still playing together after 25 years.

So when Come to Life came out, after 7 years of work, I think it took all of us a little bit to actually realize what had just happened. 7 years is a long time - you actually become a completely new person in 7 years. Literally. All the cells in your body have actually been replaced over that amount of time.

In this spirit of acknowledgement Pete wanted to show others that this record, that all of our efforts and successes and failures, were not a mere whim, but that in fact, we had been planning it all for many years.

So now I want to share some of those moments with you, via the Rock Soup videos we taped 3/4 of a decade ago, and perhaps it will lead you to discover the final result - a record with so much heart, talent and adventure in coming to being.

Here is Rock Soup - Episode 2 where I describe the plan for making a record with no money, no label:

Here is Rock Soup: Episode 4 "Long-Distance Relationships" - I like this one because it describes how we will make the record across borders and time. It discusses services, online collaboration techniques and more - that made Come to Life possible:

In Rock Soup - Episode 5: "Reverb vs. Delay" we talk about how we are making both my solo debut album "Box" and "Come to Life" at the same time, and why. We also give some insight for new producers and recording artists about how to use Reverb and Delay in your recordings. You also get to see Ryan and Dan Luperini recording in Burbank for Come to Life.

Finally in Rock Soup: Episode 7 - "If It Ain't Got That Swing" we bring it all together - this one shows us in the final year of tracking the record, driving around in Los Angeles with singer Aimee Lynn Chadwick, visiting Capitol Records, and really stating the philosophy behind the record, releasing as an Indie and maintaining the spirit of play above all, not losing sight of what is most important about being a musician...

This video also shows some behind-the-scenes footage of the various musicians tracking the record, which is pretty cool.

Finally, here is an unlisted video of my IndieGogo campaign which we used to raise money to put the CD release and initial marketing materials together. It has a lot of the final story about the ultimate creation of the record and how Alex Lifeson came into the picture:

I hope you enjoy these videos, maybe even learn a trick or two, but most importantly, that they enhance your appreciation of the record that means so much to me.
Thanks for checking it out!

Yours always,
Keram

Where you can get limited edition physical copies of CD with 16 pages of liner notes and full color art!

Come to Life on CDBaby

Come to Life on Amazon
